x735 Preppers Internship Posts: The Department of Home Affairs (South Africa)

Role description

The Department of Home Affairs, DHA, in collaboration with Harambee and the Department of Employment and Labour, DEL as the National Pathway Management Network, seeks to employ 737 unemployed youth as Preppers for the digitization of the department of home affairs records. 

The DHA has started the digitization process of converting over 350 million paper records into electronic format for improved service delivery. 

The DHA seeks to contribute to the employment creation goals and strategic priorities of the Presidential Employment Stimulus programme by hiring unemployed youth on a fixed term contracts to assist. 

Duties include: 

  • preparing records for digitization; separating a variety of records, preparing paper documents for digitization, removing staples, binding, and removing paperclips.
  • Document preppers remove staples, flag pages, fix bent or torn corners and sort documents according to specifications.
  • Preppers edit and amend incorrect information.
  • In addition to prepping documents, perform general clerical duties, such as answering phones, taking messages, making copies and other duties as assigned
  • Document preppers must be able to sit for extended periods of time and must have extreme attention to detail.
  • Preppers must be computer literate, as they utilize computers and other office equipment, such as scanners and fax machines.

Role requirement

WHO CAN APPLY? 

  • South African citizens aged between 18-35 years old
  • A minimum of a Higher Certificate in Document and / or Records Management or Information Technology recognised by SAQA at NQF 5.
  • No criminal record.

  • Copy of certified qualifications.
  • Copy of certified identity document.

Successful candidates will be subjected to suitability checks (Citizenship, Credit, Criminal and Qualification Verification). Duration of contract: 3 years (approximately May/June 2023- May/June 2026). A contract linked to the duration of the project will be signed upon appointment. Southern Centre for Inequality Studies (SCIS) Internship 2023: Wits University

The Southern Centre for Inequality Studies (SCIS) is an interdisciplinary research centre located in the Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management, whose work focuses on understanding and addressing inequality in the global South.

The SCIS has established an internship programme for graduate students at Wits University. Successful internship applicants will assist with both research, and aspects of project and operations management. Successful interns will be flexible, innovative, and proactive, with the ability to work in a diverse team.

For 2023, there are four internship opportunities in the following projects:

  • Climate and Inequality (6 months)
  • Public Economies (3 months)
  • Post-Covid Economic Recovery (6 months)
  • Urban innovation & Inequality (6 months)

REQUIREMENTS

  • Registered for a post-graduate qualification at Wits University;
  • Have a background in economics, climate change, development studies, urban planning, or a relevant degree;
  • Interested in supporting research on sustainability and inequality in an academic or policy context;
  • Interested in developing project management and administrative skills with an interest in the work of the SCIS;
  • Knowledge and experience of research skills (quantitative and qualitative) and research software preferred;
  • Be highly motivated, able to work with limited supervision and able to manage different stakeholders (internally and externally).

SCIS internships are paid, part-time internships in accordance with the rules of the University. The posts are for fixed term internships, which may be renewed subject to performance and availability of funding.
